Swartruggens is a small town in the North West Province of South Africa .
It is only 2 hour's drive from the city Johannesburg and 1 hour's drive from the Botswana border.
Swartruggens is popular because of its access to game lodges and game viewing, without having to travel hours before experiencing game country.
It is only 74km from Sun City and from Pilansberg Nature Reserve (where the 'big 5' can be viewed).
Swartruggens lies surrounded by a series of black hills. When you translate from Afrikaans, the name Swartruggens means 'black ridges'.
The town was originally built on the Elands River during the late 1800's. Diamonds were discovered north of the town in 1932 and today small diamond diggings are still operational.
The N4 is a national route in South Africa that runs from Skilpadshek on the Botswana border, past Rustenburg, Pretoria, Witbank and Nelspruit, to Komatipoort on the Mozambique border.
It forms the South African section of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor, which runs from Walvis Bay (Namibia) to Maputo (Mozambique), meaning that it links the east and west coasts of Southern Africa.
The entire Corridor is now a world-class standard highway; it features at least one carriageway in each direction of high-speed traffic plus a paved shoulder for its entire length.
The South African section can be divided into two parts with Pretoria in the middle. The western portion links Gaborone and Lobatse in Botswana with Pretoria, while the eastern portion links Pretoria with Nelspruit in Mpumalanga and Maputo in Mozambique.
Villa Finesse is situated in Swartruggens. The entrance gate is located on the N4 that runs right through Swartruggens.
It is only 500 meters from the center of the town.
